Fallen Ribbon Part 1 Sneak Peak

Geordie

A thin, cold hand pulled back the blanket slightly, revealing Geordie’s head.  She fought to keep her eyes closed and not panic, but as soon as it appeared, it vanished.  Two voices started arguing in hushed whispers, one of them was Matt’s.  The unidentifiable voice sounded shallow, short, and as cold as the hand it belonged to, a vampire.

The moment the vampire was gone, she immediately left the apartment.  She checked her wounds quickly in the reflection of the window.  Geordie was always amazed at how quickly she healed.  They wouldn’t be the last wounds she healed from.  Geordie quickly scribbled down a note and left it on a pillow before running out of the apartment.

Despite the sun fading from the late summer day, the thick humidity beat down over her shoulders painfully.  She was not used to the east coast heat compared to her homeland out west in Daron Forest.  The weather there was perfect and crisp all year long.  There were no freezing cold winters or boiling hot summers.  It was always cool out.  The thick clusters of trees that were the forest she grew up in made it perfect for any vampire to live safely from the sun, whether born or turned.

Although the sun was never truly a problem for Geordie, she did not prefer it.  She didn’t burst into fire like vampires, but she did blister, and her skin sunburned easily if she stayed out in it for too long.  The constant downside of always being on the run was also never knowing where to go.  She still had about an hour or two to go before the sun finally set and it was safe for her to roam comfortably.

If there was a coven in Boston, the vampire was likely to tell their elders and Geordie worried if they would send an army of guardians to slaughter her like the angels did.  She had no way of knowing, but she needed to at least find somewhere safe to be before she could find out.  Geordie knew that she was entirely unprepared to go against a fully trained guardian.  Her father taught her that only the best in combat could become guardians.  They had to be versatile in fighting various types of supernatural creatures, including angels and other vampires.

Before she could find out what it would be like to fight a guardian, she needed to find sanctuary somewhere.  Nearby, she spotted two faeries headed toward her: a male and a female.  They were beautiful and tall with matching golden tan skin and green hair.  They both had tufts of brown fur on parts of their faces and bodies especially so down their legs which turned into dark hooves.

“Excuse me.”  She stopped them.  They both stared at her with empty black eyes.  “Is there a place for sanctuary nearby until dark?”

“Andvari’s Trove.  No violence is permitted there, even for a hybrid such as yourself.”  One of the faeries spoke quickly before continuing past her without another word.  Faeries were not creatures prone to associating outside of their normal circles.

“Where is it?”  Geordie called out in a panic before they could get too far.  This time it was the female who called back.

“It’s the only club on a public alley, about six city blocks from here.  You’ll know it by the sign only one of us can see.”

Confused by the faeries’ words, it took Geordie almost an hour to find the club.  It was hidden in the back of an alleyway with a sign to the mortal eyes that looked broken down and long abandoned, but to Geordie, it was an intricately carved hanging sign with glowing Viking runes Geordie assumed to spell Andvari’s Trove.

The alleyway was too small for any cars to come down.  The main entrance of the club was a garage door that had a large lever next to it.  When Geordie pulled it, the garage door flew up quickly with a loud clanking and sliding noise that was hard to ignore.  Looking back, there was no one coming down the alley or stopping to look for the source of the noise, so she entered without further thought.

She entered an old elevator shaft with an identical lever that once pulled, shut the garage door and Geordie could hear the elevator engines kick on and she began to descend into darkness.  At the bottom, a door behind Geordie slid open, revealing a small entryway with two vampire guards in tight black t-shirts standing in front of a set of double doors with a black metal frame and bubbled textured glass that obstructed any view into the club.  All Geordie could make out were the dancing colorful lights coming from inside and the slapping of a bass guitar over the sound heavy drums.
