Proof Copies Have Arrived!
Good Morning Readers!
I have finally received the PROOF copy of Fallen Ribbon in Paperback! Getting to the point of printing these was definitely a challenge but they’re finally here! I am still waiting for the hardcover PROOF copy, but it should be here by Thursday at the latest. All of this definitely feels like a step in the right direction! We’re getting so close to the launch day; I can feel it around the corner!
Last week was a busy week for me as I finally got started on uploading Fallen Ribbon to the various platforms needed. First, I submitted my application for copyright and uploaded a copy of Fallen Ribbon. Based on what I read, the copyright office should get back to me within a month and a half, if I am understanding it correctly. I should receive a certificate in the mail, officially copyrighting Fallen Ribbon to my name. Super exciting! As I finished that up, I also registered my three ISBNs for each format: Ebook, Paperback, and Hardcover. That cost me a pretty penny, but it will be worth it to have Fallen Ribbon available in all formats.
After I registered the ISBN’s, I moved on to uploading the book to Amazon KDP which turned out to be more strenuous than I had been expecting. The Ebook was the easiest one to upload and took no time at all. The paperback and hardback, however, took more work than I was expecting. This was definitely a mistake on my part, but the original print I made pre final edits was from a company, Lulu Press at an A5 book size and that’s what I ultimately decided to use for the paperback format. As it turned out, Amazon KDP and Lulu Press have different standards of printing from each other that I wasn’t anticipating. For the A5 standard book dimensions, Amazon KDP doesn’t use that as a standard size for its printing presses, so we had to resize the cover entirely for the paperback and consequently it resulted in me reformatting the manuscript itself. I ended up having to do the same for the hardback because the dimensions we used for a hardcover 6x9 book from Lulu Press didn’t match up with Amazon KDP’s standards for a hardcover 6x9 book.
Reformatting the entire book, cover and manuscript, turned out to be an arduous task as my laptop was struggling to keep up with the document’s tasks. My laptop has been threatening death for quite some time now so my urgency to finish reformatting and back up my manuscripts increased tenfold. It got really frustrating one day because every time I would make a simple Microsoft Word command, my laptop would start freaking out. I had to walk away from it and let it do its thing multiple times until it was ready to work again. I was able to eventually finish my formats for the manuscript and back them up on my various cloud systems.
Once I received the new versions of the covers, I managed to get all the materials uploaded to Amazon KDP and ordered my proofs. I also ordered the note cards and bookmarks for promoting my book and have already received those in the mail. If you like what you see, make sure you order one! Once I am able to do so, I plan to order some physical copies to sell through my site itself. Any physical copy ordered through my website will come with a bookmark and a personalized note card as well! Don’t forget, you can order Fallen Ribbon exclusively through Amazon on August 15th! Buy it in your favorite format: Ebook, Paperback, and Hardcover!
