Character Introduction: Samuel Williams
Samuel Williams was forcibly enlisted into the United States Navy by his family during the trade crisis of the Napoleonic Wars in 1811 to guard precious trade cargo for naval ships in transport. While living as a human, Sam was quite adept at long ranged gun combat as well as having impressive sword skills which helped him climb the ranks of his unit and got himself offered a job position by a mysterious man, Vexus, to protect a different kind of goods across the seas. After seeing what Sam was capable of after a few months on the field, Vexus eventually introduced Sam to his adoptive daughters, Lizzie and Triana. They let him in on what they were constantly transporting, and as it would turn out, these were ancient magical objects considered to be dangerous if they fell into the wrong hands.
Together they honed Sam’s combat skills and indulged the secrets of the vampires to Sam, giving him a choice; to be turned or to part ways. By this point Sam had already developed strong feelings for Lizzie and viewed Vexus and Triana as his closest friends. He accepted the offer to become a vampire without question, but it was not Vexus who turned him, it was Lizzie.
Upon waking from his transformation, Sam discovered that they bore a connection called The Bond; they had touched each other’s souls and were forever bound in spirit. For the next few years of his new life, he traveled with his newfound family all over the world working as an ancient artifacts’ collector for the Southern Californian Coven’s own Ancient Artifacts Library. When it came time for it, Sam also enlisted in each of the World Wars per the suggestion of Vexus as a means of uncovering any artifacts the humans might uncover in the war zones. Throughout the course of almost two hundred years and experiencing different combat styles, Sam became quite adept at fighting in most forms.
In 1992 after an assault in Germany, Sam and Lizzie were separated from Vexus and Triana permanently and they were ordered to indefinitely return to Daron Island for an evaluation by the vampire government. From there Sam’s affiliation with Lizzie was summarily revoked until he went through official training at the Daron Academy in California. After four years of extensive training, Sam passed his exams and became a guardian ranking the top of his class, and he was eventually permitted to reunite with Lizzie.
Upon graduating, he was assigned to protect the Hallow family by the Northern California Coven, prolonging him from meeting with Lizzie even longer. Unsure of the reasoning behind this and eager to get back to her, he had no choice but to accept the assignment in the hopes of it speeding up the process of being reunited with Lizzie. Unfortunately, the events to follow would not lead Sam back to Lizzie any faster than several years from then.
When he met with the Hallow family, he would discover a witch with a human child. He thought his assignment was to protect the mother and child, but it was to only protect the child, Matthew Hallow. Sam was told the child was special and came from a long line of royals. It was requested that he watch over the child throughout his life at a distance.
Sam was present in Matt’s life for short periods of time and used his vampire abilities, wipe his memory when the time would come for Matt to meet the next phase of his life. Once Matt had received his acceptance to Berklee College of Music, Sam wiped his memories again and packed his bags for Boston, ready to finally reunite with Lizzie in the Massachusetts Coven. Because Lizzie was already a member of the coven, the condition of him being allowed to take her under his care was to also join the coven.
Setting up new roots, Sam begrudgingly joined the Massachusetts Coven, signing on to be a part of a coven for the first time in his life since becoming a guardian. He opened a club, naming it Andvari’s Trove and welcoming all supernatural creatures. Eventually, Matt would make his way back to Sam as guest of the club and they would begin the next phase of their friendship together. Despite his previous reservations about protecting a human and keeping him in the dark about the world around him, Sam grew fond of Matt and eventually began to view Matt as a brother, a new member of his chosen family.
